Is there anything better than a new free Dam-Funk EP? No, there is not. More gorgeous PCH-ready modern funk, with Dam tweaking the formula ever so slightly. Make no mistake, at heart Damon Riddick has a musically omnivorous bent, with an equal ardor for soul, metal, jazz, techno, disco, and rock. Ask him about Prefab Sprout or Todd Rundgren and turn your tape recorder on to remember the recommendations. But at heart, he is a funkster, both traditional and experimental, futuristic and nostalgic. The Gemini Twin, a master of duality. I’ll stop now.

Inafocuseddaze is the appetizer for his next full length, due next year on Stones Throw. Closer listening reveals the usual good vibrations and interesting flourishes — the psychedelic guitar solo at the end “Don’t You Know (That This Funk is Real), the Bruce Haack noodling at the intro of the title track.  I don’t know if Wikipedia is right or wrong, but it tells me that Dam’s middle name is G. What else could it be.
