Luca Brasi might have gained Gates fans among the Intelligentsia coffee set, but “Satellite” was the anthem that orbited throughout Louisiana last year. A few misconceptions have been floating about the Baton Rouge rapper lately. For one, he was never signed to Young Money. He’s had a management deal with them. So there was no purgatory in which Wayne was deliberating between Lil Twist and Luca Brasi. Second, Gates was incarcerated for two-plus years before dropping his last tape. He was big locally before Make Em Believe (the tape “Satellite” comes from), he was huge after it.

Atlantic had been courting him since last Spring, so it’s not like he got his deal off nebulous blog buzz. He got his deal off the fact that he doesn’t even really need to rap along to songs like “Satellites.” The audiences know every word. He did it without radio. Before this video, the YouTube rip had 1.9 million views. It was also this site’s #34 song from last year’s top list. Motion Family handle the visuals here, with typical excellence in the field of excellence. Download Make Em Believe and Luca Brasi below the jump if you didn’t already. I’m giving good advice.
