Above the Clouds With Natia the God

Inglewood is now up to a lot of good.

If the return of the Rams and the refurbished Forum has people calling for the Inglewood renaissance, don’t ignore the contributions of Natia the God. You might remember the streets-tested, Earl-approved artist from last year’s “The Wrong Way,” in which he celebrated the joys of skating and Newports with equal raptitude.

He’s back with the video to “Up,” embodying the joys of living the wrong way with the right gifts by wearing a Brett Favre jersey, cruising past the Rodeo Collection in a blood-red Jeep, sparking spliffs, and rocking the infectious sing-song flow that could make Bone Thugs proud. He’s eating swordfish, parlaying with pretty girls in hotel rooms, and living the good life. Keep watching to the end. No point to ruin the surprise. You can watch the whole four and half minutes. You can and should listen to his new EP below.

This is one of my favorite rappers at the moment, a stark antidote to the saccharine gospel, offering a window into the high life, concrete realities, and melodies that seem heaven-sent.
