Was out and about today and randomly heard “Keeping It Moving,” from Tribe’s Beats, Rhymes & Life, an album that sounds better to these ears today than it did a dozen years ago, removed from the crushing burden of having to follow up Midnight Marauders. Also, in hindsight, Dilla’s sonic influence is pretty clear throughout, particularly on this unsung gem. As for Tip’s lyrical sentiment, the concept of West/East beef seems quaint now but hey, any rhyme that name-drops Greg “the Hammer” Valentine is fine by me.
