Savannah-based Danny Swain has never been one for conventionality, so it’s unsurprising that the first words of the lead single for his long-awaited Def Jux debut are “pass me the pomegranate jelly spread.” Rather than kick the trite “I’m Me,” intro manifesto, Danny does a left-field jag that aligns him nicely with his defiantly weird labelmates. Declaring “fuck rhyming about a broad, rhyming about a necklace, rhyming about some sex, I’m rhyming about my breakfast,” he takes a page from the Mmm Food… textbook and creates the finest song of the year about French toast. Take that Phoenix.

Considering the MP3 came straight from El-P’s spam list, it’s highly likely that the man behind the 15th best song of 2008 might finally see an official Jux release.  In other Jamie Meline-related news, his recent interview with Shabooty comes highly recommended, and not merely because he endorses The Passion of the Weiss. Of course, that helps.
