Our bass music posts here at PoW trend towards experimental shit. Whether it’s the underground LA sounds bubbling beneath the Hollywood glitz or broody London Gothstep abstract enough to make Q-Tip reach for a Rick Ross track, chances are we bump it. Thing is, we also bump straight up bangers. Montreal renaissance-woman Vilify knows a thing or two about bangers.

With TWO separate mix-shows for Jungletrain and Sub.FM, one of Montreal’s most popular and longest running Dubstep nights in Bassdrive and a variety of other DJing and production engagements keeping her busy, Vilify along with partner in crime Construct have been a huge factor in Montreal’s Dubstep scene exploding the way it has over the past year. Where her contemporaries seem content to unleash a string of poorly blended wobblers on the world, Vilify’s latest mix is restless in its creativity without ever deviating from the hardcore ethos that defines her sound. From vicious tear-out tracks to dancehall remixes to explosive D&B, Vilify’s aptly titled “Filthiest Yet Vol 3” serves as a straight-up how-to guide for sucka newjacks, proving that there’s a place for quality mixing and creative selection on the hardcore circuit. Also, for anyone in search of further listening, the Construct curated “J’Aime le Dubstep” series is now over 50 mixes strong, highlighting some of the best in hardcore bass music from MTL and abroad. Poutine and Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich not included.
