Almost didn’t listen to this. I don’t know if you’re like me, but sometimes you examine the glut of mixes posted on the Internet and begin to think they all sound alike. Nothing against the lot, but barring the most spectacular, they often blur into a glutinous blob of blog bass and esoteric bullshit. But Resident Advisor, run by ex-Stylus mastermind Todd Burns, compels musicians to bring their A-Game. The majority of their readership hasn’t listened to music with words in over a decade (passe as kids in 2015 playing Wild Gunman w/ their hands), so you can’t fool any of the people any of the time.

Thanks to a rave from Chris Gaerig, I decided to let Caribou’s RA podcast cut the nightmare queue of recently added junk currently leering at me in my iTunes. I’m glad. Like his last album, Swim, Dan Snaith continues to incubate the sort of flow usually only seen in aqueducts, yoga classes, and Papoose’s wet dreams. Like his close kin, Four Tet, the Canadian math junkie has increasingly become comfortable in the DJ realm, mixing with impeccable curatorial skill and ease of transition. Other than Villalobos, Lone, and African kingpin Thomas Mapfumo, I don’t recognize a name in the tracklist (below the jump), but Snaith engenders the highest compliment: he makes you want stop the constant head bobbing to figure out exactly who the fuck these people are.
