As much as Gibbs draws from UGK, the Screwed Up Click, and Bone Thugs, his West Coast influences are equally salient. So Compton’s Most Wanted is on my mind today, what with Freddie’s debut on late-night television. Not bad for a dude without a real label. Say what you want about his schtick, Carson Daly knows rap music. He signed Roc Marciano before anyone outside of Flip Mode Squad knew about him. Between him and Fallon, this is the best time for hip-hop on late night TV since Arsenio’s prime.
Performances of “The Ghetto” and “Live By the Game,” backed by live band, The Park. Two more new tunes below — Gibbs stays as consistent as Swiss timepieces.
