It’s not often a song snippet is going to get mentioned here, but it’s not all that often that Run The Jewels drops a single teaser via Twitter, either. Out of seemingly no where, El-P tweeted that the next album, creatively named RTJ2, “is one day away from being fully mixed” before dropping the bombastic Blockbuster Night Pt. 1 on his soundcloud account. As commenter jet_ so succinctly put it, “this beat makes me want to commit a felony.” Over a downright filthy, pulsating beat, El-P and Killer Mike perform lyrical ninjitsu, assassinating this track while spitting verses that stick in the wall like shurikens. While, “It’s all a joke between mom contractions and coffin fittings,” might be the hardest line recited so far this year, it’s the give and take between the two that reminds listeners what makes Run the Jewels the real deal. When Mike threatens, “I jake the snake ‘em, DDT ‘em in mausoleums/macabre massacre killin cunts in my Colosseum,” only to be followed by El-P’s, “They all actors, giving top in back of a BM/ I’d fall back if the casting calls are ending in semen,” audio shivers ensue.

While a hard release date has yet to be mentioned, RTJ2 is expected later this year. The boys hit the road for a predominantly West Coast/Canadian tour starting July 31 that runs through the end of August and have an Adult Swim single scheduled for September 15. I might need to put “Top of the morning, my fist to your face is fucking Folgers” on my tombstone now.
