You don’t need any more extended tributes to Gates. After all, year-End lists are approaching and for the third straight year, he’s been writing and sending hits. At the moment, he has four ostensibly free mixtapes in the Top 100 of the iTunes Rap charts. In the last two weeks, he’s leaked “John Gotti,” a behemoth from the Luca Brasi sequel due in 10 days. Then he rapped over Boosie’s “Crazy.” As for the “Free Lee Lucas” chants in “Gotti,” that’s Gates’ uncle, currently locked up in Angola, a venerable BR heavy hitter whose name popped up frequently at Boosie’s trial for being the one who sent him letters from prison warning him of the killers trying to get him. If there is a last bastion of gangsta rap, it is Baton Rouge.

For those late to Gates, DJ Ya Boy Earl, his former DJ, Baton Rouge radio legend, and 5 star general,  has compiled a mixtape of the best Gates cameo appearances. It includes newer stuff with Lil Bibby and B.O.B. to deep older cuts with Boosie and Nussie. You want to download it, you need to download it, you didn’t even need me to write this sentence.
