Chris Daly knows that you can play a shoestring if you’re sincere.

You already know we ride for Kamasi Washington. Whether it’s the best jazz record of the year or of the decade remains to be seen, but the early votes clearly are piling up in the South Central LA saxophonist’s favor.

Maybe you’re one of those cats who simply hasn’t come to the simple truth that we all should #ListenToMoreJazz. Some things have to be seen as well as heard to be fully appreciated. i can dig that. With that in mind, KW stopped by the KCRW studios recently with an eight-piece ensemble to tear up a few tracks from his recent magnum opus.

Washington puts his people through their paces on three incredible jams, “Re Run Home,” “The Rhythm Changes,” and “The Magnificent 7,” before doing a little Q&A.

If for some reason you’re still not convinced, well, you might need to have a talk with the man in the mirror about what’s wrong with your ears. If it helps, however, here’s Mr. Washington again doing his thing for NPR. Let the horns blow.
