The success of Merriweather Post Pavilion may prevent such a day from ever coming into fruition, but Panda Bear’s making it awfully hard to think of him as a solo artist subservient to his Animal Collective obligations. Noah Lennox’s solo work has been consistently great–Panda Bear’s latest, Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper, lands somewhere in between his debut, Person Pitch, and its follow-up, Tomboy. Much to the excitement of those who championed his debut, the unadulterated joy of the album is back on Grim Reaper, but there’s a ton of dub elements floating around, too. Grim Reaper  feels like the best elements of his first two records slapped together. Lennox’s voice pushes the album, and the latest single, “Boys Latin” is no different. He’s a Panda first, and an Animal second.
