In unofficial Quik week, I present the video companion to yesterday’s Quik feature. Featuring but not limited to, a mini music video for “Born and Raised in Compton,” Quik’s Papa Smurf shirt, childhood home, drug spots, and the occasional game of Rock Em’ Sock em Robots. Plus, insane stories of his cruel sisters. And yes if you were wondering, that’s me in the green shirt. I have since gotten a haircut, thus stopping people in the street from handing me spare change.

No matter of how good of a writer one is, you cannot hope to top the entertainment value of Quik’s on-camera presence. He is the most interesting man in the world. There are about six hours more of footage on the cutting room floor that might be more compelling than what made the final cut. 20 years of classics cannot be distilled into nine minutes. Hopefully, we’ll roll more footage out as the summer progresses.  Props due to Jon Casey for directing the video, Forest Casey for DPing it, and for LA Weekly’s Rebecca Haithcoat having the tenacity and foresight to make this happen. The video is below the jump.
