Over at the Times, I call Shlohmo the Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles beat scene. The analogy fits because they’re both ostensibly too young to have such stellar production. I’m not sure if Henry Laufer is left-handed, but I might have to ask. We may have to form a baseball team — I haven’t picked up a bat in a few years, but I’m pretty sure I can hit whatever 78 MPH fastball passes in rec league baseball. Whether we form a squad depends on the league’s ability to let us have “Pretty Boy Swag” be the team’s theme music. That is non-negotiable.

I’m not going to do another write up about how I think Bad Vibes is the best beat album of the year (LA, 2011 edition). Besides, Chris Daly already covered it for the Passion contingent.  So I’ll just note that Laufer’s been dropping an embarrassment of riches over the last few weeks. A Fader mix. A Fact mix. A blurred and bleary remix of When Saints Go Machine. Yet another track from Bad Vibes. And finally, Fine Thanks, a collection of odds and sods recorded over the last two years. You probably want to download them all, and if you know what’s bad for you, you’ll hit up the album release show this Friday.
