Though this site’s content would generally suggest otherwise, I spend much of my free time listening to jazz and Afro-Beat. Hence, my love of Roy Ayers, who did everything from Blaxploitation soundtracks to funk to disco to collaborations with Fela Kuti. If he isn’t better than Miles, he’s one of the closest ones. And tomorrow night, he’s returning home to Los Angeles to play a show alongside Pete Rock, J Rocc, and Thundercat.

I normally turn down all ticket giveaways, but this deserves an honorary exception. If you don’t want to go to this show, you’ve probably been hit in the head with a vibraphone stick a few too many times. So if someone can name three famous graduates from Ayers’ high school, I will give you a pair of tickets to tomorrow night’s show. E-mail [email protected]. Or don’t.
