Son Raw can’t be bought in cash. Maybe in strippers.

For those who aren’t keen on my EDM writing, perhaps my close association with Hesk through ventures such as Project Sundays might seem like a conflict of interest – writers shouldn’t be dallying with artists and the such. Insiders will be quick to attest however that our affiliation is merely the strongest of endorsements: there are PLENTY of great producers in Montreal but this is the man I’d want in my corner when it comes time to throw down and represent – so don’t expect me to stop giving him props any time soon. It boils down to a common musical language: though we don’t play the same tunes, we both came to electronic music from Hip-Hop and classic soul, a fact that shines loud in clear throughout his output, including “My World is empty without Lust”.

Though it’s been floating around the interwebs for a minute, Lust is the perfect tune for Montreal in January: much as we try to put on a brave fest and dance the cold away at Igloofest, this city gets downright desolate ’round now. We’re talking eyelid freezing temperatures where the sight of an unclothed elbow or knee brings more arousal than should be allowed outside of countries imposing strict Shariah law. In such cabin-fever inducing conditions, Lust’s nervy, staccato take on Footwork makes perfect sense, hyper-speed music that begins to glitch and tense up until it’s reduced to a half-time crawl of triplets floating on an ocean of bass. Landing closer to Tricky than Goldie, it’s the Supremes on skunk weed and comedowns, Diana Ross’ elegance sampled and subsumed into the paranoia befitting winter months when there’s nothing better to do than to keep close to home and bang out tunes. Bonus props for the video featuring MTL Footwork souljah Multi busting out moves in a variety of bizarre, sci-fi looking locations we have lying around in the city. Even more bonus props for the following Rick Ross edit which equates “making money” to “illuminati” like never before.
