Son Raw is half-sure Jeff posted that to goad him into writing again.

I’m not exactly posting this to get back at Jeff for that 100% Silk post but sometimes life delivers serendipitous moments where something I was going to write about in any case serves as a perfect counter point to a previous post. The truth is I can, in certain circumstances, get down to house. Those circumstances include the involvement of black people (or white people with a serious involvement in black music) at some point during the creative process, a club-ready sound mix and a certain ineffable funk that cannot be faked. In this regards The New York Transit Authority (AKA Bristol producer Mensah) succeeds handsomely. Perhaps Jeff and I’s differences of opinion are environmental: my pick is named after NYC’s hectic subway system while his is as languid and stoned as California earwax hash. In any case, while I carry no pretense of authority in regards to House music, this is House music I approve of. And with Hyperdub signing Laurel Halo and Snoop Dogg releasing this I may have to re-configure my worldview to accept a few other kinds as well. Just don’t expect me to endorse any subgenres with the prefix “handbag” or “electro” alright? I can only bend so far.
