Video Premiere: Nocando ft. Cam & China – “Next Subject”

Nocando & Cam and China connect.

Straight out the gothic chambers of South Central or whatever vampiric cellar this was shot at, comes “Next Subject” from Nocando and Cam & China — formerly of the Pink Dollaz – currently of the best rapping duo this side of Run the Jewels. The beat comes from Yonnas Abraham, formerly of BLK HRTS, currently replacing Peter Murphy as the lead singer of Bauhaus.

When I asked Nocando for a little more information about the song, he replied: “I wanted to bring South Central LA and Inglewood together in the new way. In my way. We’ve heard many different “When I’m in your hood I got a pass” records or “I got love everywhere I fuck with everybody” records, but really that’s an old narrative. The current feeling of Angelenos is “real recognize real” and “duh, real ones love me cause I’m real but that’s not the point tho.

“What’s new?”n”what’s up” kill all that superficial shit. I personally think what’s new is this goth-inspired post ratchet late night banger. I air out my dirty laundry and add a bit hint at nihilism in the midst of the turn up, vent about my cousin being locked up while counter balancing it with rapper bravado. Cam and China make it a point to let you know hard raps and gangster behavior aren’t just men sports and that they aren’t just the cute twins from some old Jerk group. The beat is produced by Yonnas Abraham who’s produced a few more stand out records on my upcoming Kingsnake project.”

This is a good rap record because it sounds new, yet taps into the same snarling but friendly spirit of competition that made many of the old rap records stand out. But you already knew.
