In a move of utter predictability, I emerge from my late summer cocoon to post new Dam-Funk tracks that have gone practically unnoticed in the over-abundance of information. You know, there are videos of Game teaching people how to carjack that warrant immediate attention.

So Damon Riddick, he of the Pasadena sophisticated funk drops two new grooves soothing as an ice cream truck jingle. The first, a remix of the late great Aaliyah’s “Rock the Boat,” adds a high powered engine to the original’s catamaran glide — with a result that’s quintessentially smooth but never soft. The second, “Kaint Let ‘Em Change Me (No!)” appeals to the inspirational side–it glitters like an abalone but stays as durable as its shell. Constructed with an inherent aversion to compromise and a surfeit of desire to stay true. Things to remember in a world where frauds preach cookie cutter cool.
