Sach O needs to shout out Laura for pointing him towards this mix.

It’s been over a year since Madlib’s last mixtape of Brazilian psych-funk and if you’re anything like me, that’s far too long. Thankfully, Eglo co-founder and Rinse.FM crate-digger extraordinaire Floating Points feels your pain and his last show on the station whips up a remarkably cohesive substitute in no time flat, scratching that itch for Portuguese phrasing and prog-jazz solos. Whereas Madlib’s dual obsessions of potent weed and stronger loops makes for dizzying, scatter-brained collages hopping from idea to the next, Samuel Shepherd comes the European school which means flawless mixing and a generally more subtle approach. The result is one endless multi-part suite featuring names like Jorge Ben and Azimuth and if that doesn’t sell you on the concept, I don’t know what will.
