Sadly the rumors appear to be true: Beastie Boy Adam Yauch AKA MCA has passed away at the age of 47 after a protracted battle with cancer. As readers of the site might guess, this is absolutely devastating for our motley crew of long standing Hip-Hop heads and we’ll be taking some time to write a proper tribute as we recover from the shock. Nevertheless, this needed to be addressed as soon as possible as we want to send our deepest condolences to Yauch’s bandmates, friends and family in this trying time. Until we find the wherewithal to write something, I’d like to share “A Day and a Year” – an oft forgotten MCA solo gem buried at the back of Paul’s Boutique. It’s possibly my favorite Beastie Boy moment ever and it seems appropriate. – Son Raw
