Because many music critics enjoy revisionist history and pretending that rappers are only influenced by esoteric regional or blog-rap references that only they catch, there has been little mention that three of the four best rappers of 2012  (Danny Brown, Kendrick Lamar, Gunplay and Freddie Gibbs) are heavily influenced by Wu-Tang.

This is not half-baked speculation from a Wu-Tang stan. There is empirical evidence. See also: Kendrick Lamar’s “West Coast Wu-Tang,” Danny Brown’s “The Wizard” (plus a major Fred Savage influence), and Gunplay’s decision to rap over the “Guillotine (Swordz)” instrumental. This video is proof that you don’t need a big budget, just creativity and enough drugs for SNL circa 1977, to kill it. Gunplay: the choice of a new generation. Wu-Tang is forever. Let’s just pretend that Wu Vs. D-Block thing didn’t happen.
