At the height of the jerkin’ phenomenon, the Pink Dollaz always seemed a safe bet for stardom. They were five teenaged girls who rapped inordinately well about eating pussy, lap dances, and the general tenets of bad bitchdom. A half-decade later, PTAF rode that lane to a low-key street hit that Nicki, Empress of Boss Ass Bitches rode on her rickshaw to a couple million SoundCloud streams more.

I never understood why Pink Dollaz never blew up nationally. Maybe it was poor management or the difficulties inherent in getting five teenagers to do the same damn thing. It wasn’t the music, which was always catchy and well-executed, if not proto-ratchet without the Mustard touch. Either way, there is a straight line from their former producer J-Hawk to Mustard. After all, the former made YG’s first hit “Pussy Killer,” which Mustard spun a thousand times as Keenon Jackson’s DJ.

I’ve been hearing for a minute that Cam and China, two of the group’s most talented, have formed their own splinter cell. “Do Dat” is the first single, proof-positive that the legacy of Young Bleed remains indelible, and a viable successor to Magnolia Shorty’s proud lineage.

The beat is pretty firmly in the post-Mustard one-handed keyboard with the eyes closed ratchet lane, courtesy of Ty Dolla Sign collaborator D.R.U.G.S. and Beatboy. But it’s simple and effective and the raps are raw. There is also a great/awful Ghostface Killah joke in here. Nicki should bring them on a tour with Tink, Katie Got Bangs, and PTAF and go full Lillith Fair, 2014.  If Veruca Salt can reunite anything is possible.
