R.I.P John Holt

We pay tribute to reggae legend John Holt
By    October 20, 2014

Son Raw can’t believe the amount of obituaries he’s written this year.

We’ve lost another one. John Holt was the sweet, silky voice behind countless lovers’ anthems and the composer behind songs covered and sampled by acts from Blondie to Lily Allen, which indirectly makes him your girl’s favorite reggae singer not named Marley. Rudebwoys from Kingston streets to Berkeley dorms meanwhile, will probably know him best for Police in Helicopter – a song that will continue to resonate long after we’re all vaping legal THC concentrate out of government supplied G-pens.

I’m admittedly not familiar with his biography so I’ll refer you to Allmusic for that, but I can tell you that no classic reggae set is complete without one of his tunes, and that the following tribute selection can and will lead you down an infinite rabbit hole of strong grooves and choice lyrics. He will be missed.
