Will Schube always keeps the lights on

If Light In The Attic did nothing else besides re-introduce the world to Lee Hazlewood, they’d likely still be one of my favorite labels around. The mustachioed champion of lounging cowboy folk music is a personal hero, creator of the all-time great “Hey Cowboy” and winner of greatest album cover ever award . He also ran a little label in the late 60s/early 70s called LHI, which gave some spotlight (whatever light he didn’t steal) to up-and-coming or underappreciated artists.

One of Hazlewood’s artists was a man named Arthur—I think the single name speaks to the ambition he had. This ambition was never fully realized, but Light in the Attic once again work some magic and bring an unheard of folkster to a larger audience. Arthur’s Dream and Images is slated for a January release, and first single “Sunshine Soldier” is a delicate piece of idealistic folk—full of peace prophecies and calls for utopian co-existence. The track’s little more than Arthur’s voice backed by a muted horn and a dreamy, affected guitar loop, but his vocal presence is charming and pure sounding.
